Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Controls System Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a critical part in supporting the successful commissioning, testing, and deployment of sophisticated electrical control systems across multiple sites. Working in diverse environments, you will oversee vehicular barriers, building access controls, pedestrian barriers, solar power platforms, high and low voltage systems, and a wide range of sensor technologies.

As a key technical resource, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth startup and operation of these systems. Additionally, you will provide essential training to both internal teams and clients, helping them understand and utilize the complex electrical systems deployed in various project locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Integration and Commissioning:

    • Lead the installation, commissioning, and testing of electrical and control systems, including vehicular barriers, traffic lighting, and contractor-installed components.
    • Work with project teams to ensure that system commissioning follows the required specifications and meets safety and performance standards.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during the startup process, ensuring systems are fully operational on time.
  • Access Control Systems Management:

    • Wire, terminate, and configure various access control systems using different protocols, topologies, and technologies.
    • Provide technical expertise to optimize system performance and reliability across a variety of installations.
  • Low Voltage Wiring and Sensor Package Integration:

    • Implement and adhere to best practices for low voltage wiring in diverse settings, ensuring the highest quality and safety standards are maintained.
    • Integrate and configure advanced sensor packages used for monitoring and control in building access, vehicular barriers, and solar power systems.
  • Training and Development:

    • Train and mentor both internal team members and external clients on system operations, best practices, and troubleshooting techniques for both basic and advanced electrical systems.
    • Conduct training sessions on-site and remotely, using various communication platforms.
  • Collaboration with Project Teams:

    • Work closely with project management and engineering teams to support the overall project lifecycle from planning through to execution.
    • Act as the on-site technical lead, interfacing with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth and timely completion of projects.
  • Documentation and Reporting:

    • Ensure that all system installations are fully documented, including wiring diagrams, configuration settings, and commissioning reports.
    • Maintain accurate records of on-site activities, issues, and solutions to provide comprehensive project status updates to the management team.

Qualifications:

  • Electrical Engineering Experience:

    • Strong background in electrical engineering or extensive hands-on experience with both high and low voltage systems, including wiring, controls, and power distribution.
    • Knowledge of electrical componentry, including circuit design, power systems, and sensor integration.
  • Technical Expertise:

    • Ability to interpret and work from electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
    • Strong math and analytical skills for assessing system performance and identifying potential improvements.
  • Communication Skills:

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to convey technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • Comfortable communicating through a variety of platforms including phone, video conferencing, email, and instant messaging.
  • Problem-Solving and Adaptability:

    • Proven ability to work independently in challenging and sometimes adverse conditions, solving complex problems with minimal external support.
    • Capable of managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, while adapting to changing priorities and project requirements.
  • Leadership and Team Collaboration:

    • Demonstrated ability to lead site operations and oversee system installations with responsibility for both technical performance and safety.
    • Experience in working as part of a collaborative team and providing guidance to colleagues on complex system operations.
  • Software Proficiency:

    • Familiarity with MS Excel, Outlook, Word, and Adobe Acrobat is essential for reporting and documentation purposes.

Essential Functions:

  • Physical and Environmental Requirements:

    • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs. and quickly navigate project sites.
    • Must be able to work in various environments, including outdoor and industrial settings, under potentially adverse weather conditions.
    • Operate a vehicle for travel between project sites.
  • Technology and Equipment:

    • Able to operate office equipment such as computers, phones, fax machines, and scanners to fulfill reporting and communication needs.
    • Proficient with using various technical tools and equipment necessary for commissioning and testing electrical systems.
  • Security Requirements:

    • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary security clearances as required by project locations or clients.
  • Travel Requirements:

    • This role requires up to 75% travel to various project sites across different regions, with some assignments requiring extended stays.
